TODAY’S THING THAT MAKES ME HAPPY = Emac has been mentoring a kid at El Rincon Elementary School, guiding her through the process of writing a short screenplay. Emac asked me to be a guest performer, acting out the scripts of ten students (who normally have little to no access to the arts nor one-on-one attention). So I got to play everything from a giant mythical gatekeeper bird to a cheerleader at a never-before-invented sports game to a kid addicted to candy to an understanding and “beautiful like Beyonce” black mom. It was a delight and honor to bring these kids’ words to life.

For the last seven weeks I’ve been a Mentor for the Young Story Tellers Foundation. I knew I would love this program and it has made Tuesdays the best day of the week for me.

The kids we have been mentoring at El Rincon Elementary school have their Big Show next Tuesday and I can’t wait! Everyone is welcome to come.

Remember high school when you were on a sports team and winning the county or state championship (or coming close) was the best thing that could happen? I was on the swim team and for the four years I was on it, we came close to beating Greenwich’s team but never took the FCIAC title.

Darien finally did it after 11 years. I wish I was there for that moment, even though I know no one on the team at this point. It still would have been really exciting.
